Becton Dickinson

The partners of the Measles Initiative would like to recognize the contributions of Becton Dickinson (BD) Company to various measles campaigns as well as for including the Initiative in their partnership communication campaign that includes ads that will appear in 13 news, general interest and health professional magazines during 2003.

As a company dedicated to the elimination of unnecessary suffering and death from disease, BD is the world's leading manufacturer of injection products. Their firm belief and commitment to children's safe vaccination rights, has enabled them to commit resources to ensure that these rights are achieved in all corners of the globe. As an organization that upholds the tenets of superior quality in all their efforts, highest standards of excellence are incorporated in everything that is done on behalf of children, communities, customers, shareholders, and employees.

This devotion led Becton Dickinson to donate valuable resources first to the vaccination campaign in Kenya. Becton Dickinson graciously agreed to fully develop and print:

  • 500,000 measles posters to raise awareness about the need to be vaccinated and
  • 5,000 brochures instructing health works how to safely use the BD single use syringes

The materials were distributed in all 77 districts where the campaign occurred and at all vaccination sites. All materials were available in English and Kiswahili.

Becton Dickinson has also supported campaigns in Tanzania, Benin, and Ghana by donating more than 35,000 banners, posters, t-shirts and sample syringes. BD also translated and offered instruction brochures for proper syringe use and trained health workers on the proper use of the syringe in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.

Becton Dickinson's contribution to the Measles Initiative will help ensure that children in these regions are free from a killer disease and will have the opportunity to have a bright and healthy future.
