Jane Seymour joins trip to Kenya to view measles campaign and star in documentary about the Measles Initiative
Jane Seymour, an American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet Member, will travel to Kenya with the American Red Cross to view a measles campaign first-hand. As a celebrity cabinet member, Seymour has embraced the Measles Initiative and other children's health programs and aims to raise awareness about the multitude of issues children face, and how the Red Cross helps to solve them.
Seymour will spend a little more than a week viewing different districts in Kenya, including Kibera, the largest slum area in Africa. She will view every aspect of a measles campaign including the distribution of vaccination supplies; she will walk house-to-house with Kenya Red Cross volunteers to educate mothers about the importance of vaccination; and she will take part in vaccination day, watching vaccinators give measles shots. She will also help vaccinators give children vitamin A drops that boost their immune systems. Local hospital pediatric wards and schools will also be visited.
In a press conference slated for mid-May, Seymour will announce her commitment to the Measles Initiative and her role during the Kenya trip. She will also announce the name of six Los Angeles schoolchildren who will be joining her on the trip as part of a documentary being filmed about the Measles Initiative.
