Start a Project

Group of School Children in Uniform

Around the world people, like you, are helping bring the measles vaccine to millions of children each year through local awareness-building and fund-raising projects. Their simple actions are making a significant difference in the fight against this deadly disease.

Please join us in meeting our goal to reduce measles deaths by 95 percent worldwide by 2015.

To raise the profile of this cause, consider organizing information booths, presentations, film screenings and photo displays to educate your neighbors, colleagues and students about the cause.

Building on their awareness, ask your community to donate. It costs just $1 to protect a child from the disease, and there are numerous ways to fundraise in support of the Measles Initiative.

Adult advocates have been very successful in collecting funds at benefit concerts, dinner parties and auctions. Youth and young adult fundraisers have been similarly helpful in raising support through bake sales, car washes, dance contests and sporting tournaments.

To provide additional ideas, help you get organized and promote your project, the Measles & Rubella Initiative has developed a variety of tools and resources under the following categories.

Tool Raise Funds Tool Involve Youth
Resources for Soliciting Support   Resources for Engaging Youth

Tool Educate Others
  Resources for Raising Awareness

If you want to join an event planned for your community or find others to help start a new project, please contact your local American Red Cross chapter.

You can also request additional guidance and resources from the Measles Initiative by emailing measles@usa.redcross.org.
